The job usually begins before the ceremony. An attendant learns your pet’s routine, reviews the timeline, confirms who can make decisions, and plans transport and handoffs. On the wedding day, that same person handles the leash, comfort breaks, photos, food, water, and the trip home.
We reviewed 194 U.S. wedding-pet vendor listings to see how the work is described in practice. Ceremony escort appeared in 93.8% of the listings, photo assistance in 93.3%, pet transport in 87.6%, and all-day coordination in 85.1%. Those services often appear together, but each vendor sets their own coverage.

What to settle before the wedding
Start with the handoffs. Decide who gives your pet to the attendant, when they should arrive, and where they go after their last planned moment. Share feeding instructions, medication needs, stress signals, venue rules, and an emergency contact.
Ask how the attendant works with your planner and photographer. Then confirm travel limits, included hours, extra-time charges, cancellation terms, insurance, and the backup plan if the assigned handler becomes unavailable.
A meet-and-greet is common for good reason. In our corpus, 120 of the 135 listings with a clear answer required a consultation. Your pet gets a chance to meet the handler, and the handler can spot problems before the venue is full of guests.

Not quite. A pet sitter usually cares for a pet at home. A wedding pet attendant works around a live event, coordinates timing with other vendors, and handles the pet during ceremonies and photos.

Many do. Pet transportation appeared in 170 of the 194 U.S. vendor listings we reviewed, but pickup distance, mileage, and return plans vary.
Can an attendant help with wedding photos?
Yes. Photo assistance appeared in 181 of the 194 listings reviewed. The attendant can hold the leash, get your pet’s attention, and step out once the photographer has the shot.
What happens to my pet after the ceremony?
That depends on the plan you choose. The attendant may take your pet home, hand them to another caregiver, stay through the reception, or provide overnight care.
